When you create a new account in Helo, your account starts in Test Mode. Test Mode allows you to test out key Helo features before you need to commit to a paid plan.

What you can (and cannot) do while your account is in Test Mode

While in Test Mode, you can send up to 1,000 emails to recipients on domains you own and that you verified in Helo. This allows you to experiment with our API (and see how we deliver emails to your inbox) without committing to a paid plan right away. You cannot, however:

How to get out of Test Mode

To get your account out of Test Mode and to unlock all of Helo’s features, you must:
  • Verify at least one domain for sending. Here’s how.
  • Subscribe to a paid plan.

Why does Helo’s Test Mode not allow free sending to any recipient?

We know that everyone loves free stuff. We do, too! But do you know who really likes free email sending? Spammers. Urgh. The sad truth is that the internet is a weird place and bad actors will find a way to try and abuse email sending tools, especially if free sending is available. We’d rather spend our time supporting legit senders like you than playing whack-a-mole with spammers. That’s why we’re limiting free (test) sending on Helo to recipients on domains you own. That makes Helo boring for spammers, while still allowing you to test Helo’s key features for free.
