Enable open and click tracking
Tracking lives on the Channel level in Helo, meaning you can enable (or disable) tracking for each of the Channels you’ve created in Helo. To activate tracking, navigate to the Channel you’d like to set up tracking for, head into “settings” and enable open or click tracking (or both.)How open tracking works
Open tracking works with a tiny invisible pixel dropped into the HTML of your email. When a recipient’s client loads that pixel, Helo records it as anopened event.
Many email clients now include privacy features that affect open tracking. Apple Mail Privacy Protection and Gmail’s image proxy, for example, pre-fetch images (including the tracking pixel) as soon as a message arrives, rather than when a recipient actually opens it — and they route that request through a proxy, hiding the recipient’s real IP address and user agent.Helo can detect these prefetches so they aren’t counted as genuine opens, which makes our open rates more accurate than many other providers. IP and user agent data may still be obscured however, so don’t rely these being available for every open.
How link tracking works
Click tracking works by rewriting the links in your email to route through a Helo tracking link first. We record aclicked event, then redirect the recipient straight to your original URL — they’ll never notice the detour. Right now, tracked links run through Helo’s own tracking domain (custom tracking domains are coming soon).
Both open and click events show up in your activity feed and can trigger webhooks.
